Information We Collect and Retain

  • Information we collect from visitors to the Web Site

    Visitors to our Web Site can access the site's home page, and browse most areas, without disclosing any personally identifiable information.  You do not have to give us any personal information in order to perform job searches or to read the content portions of our Web Site.

    In addition, we gather information about you that is automatically collected by our Web server, such as your IP address, geolocation and domain name.  Your browser also provides us the Web site you come from (known as the referring URL), the type of browser you use, the time and date of access, and other information that does not personally identify you.  Catalina Marketing may use Web server and browser information to individually customize its offerings and presentations.  This information is also necessary for analyzing the use of resources, troubleshooting problems, preventing fraud, and improving our services.

  • Use of cookies and other tracking systems

    Cookies and log files are technologies used by the Web Site to identify a user as he/she moves through our Web Site.  Your browser allows us to place some information (session based IDs and/or persistent cookies) on your computer's hard drive that identifies the computer you are using.  We may use cookies to personalize our Web Site and to track your usage across other Catalina Marketing sites.

    Your Web browser can be set to allow you to control whether you will accept cookies, reject cookies, or to notify you each time a cookie is sent to you.  If your browser is set to reject cookies, Web sites that are cookie-enabled will not recognize you when you return to the Web site, and some Web site functionality may be lost.  The Help section of your browser will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting cookies.

    Although cookies do not normally contain personally identifiable information, if you have provided us information about you, we may associate your contact information with cookies or other tracking utilities our Web Site places on your computer's hard drive.  Associating a cookie with your contact data allows us to offer increased personalization and functionality.  Without cookies, this functionality would not be possible.

    Pixel tags, sometimes called Web beacons, are similar in function to a cookie.  But because of their insignificant size, it is not visible; though, they may be used to pass certain information to our servers to personalize our Web Site and to track your usage across other of our sites.  In addition, we may also use pixel tags in our HTML based e-mails.

  • Information we collect when you register on the Web Site Visitors requesting additional information or services are asked to provide basic contact information, such as name, company, e-mail and telephone number.  On all “Contact Us” screens, we clearly label the information that is required, and which information is optional and may be given at your discretion.  This information is used to respond to your query for more information and will not be released to non-affiliated third parties without your consent.

    We collect the following general types of information about you when you register on the Web Site as a job applicant: personal information, demographic information, shopper-driven information, and indirect information.  Sometimes we collect combinations of all these types of information.

    Personal information is information that can be used to identify you, or any other individual to whom the information may relate, personally.  We do not collect personal information unless you choose to provide it to us.  Some examples of personal information that we collect in some areas of our Web Site, depending on the services you use and local law, are:

    • Your name
    • Address
    • Email address
    • Telephone number
    • Contact information
    • Information about third parties, such as references or contacts, that you provide to us if you have their express written consent to do so

    Demographic information is information that is not unique to you in the sense that it refers to selected population characteristics, such as your ZIP code or postal code, age, preferences, gender, race or ethnicity, occupation, career history, interests and favorites.

    In addition, Catalina Marketing may collect indirect information about you when you use certain third party services on our Web Site.  For example, if you register your profile on our Web Site by using the co-branded, third party hosted career site (“Career Site”), you authorize us to have access to and store information from the Career Site account profile; such information will be subject to, and treated in accordance with, the policies and practices described in this Web Policy.

How Information is Used

We gather aggregate data about visitors to our Web Site for the purposes of providing our services, responding to any queries you may have, operating and improving the Web Site, and fostering a positive user experience.  We may provide information from our Web Site in aggregate form, with identifying information removed, to third parties.  Please note that with respect to any personal information such third parties may collect from you independent of us and outside the scope of this Web Site maintained by us on our servers, we will have no control over the use of such information by such third parties and the use and gathering of such data will be subject to the third parties’ privacy policies on the respective web sites.

The information we gather on this Web Site may be shared within the Catalina Marketing subsidiaries and corporate affiliates on a worldwide basis, including countries that might not have legislation that guarantees adequate protection with respect to your country of residence, in order to deliver our services.

By registering with Catalina Marketing, by managing your profile, or expressly opting in when presented with choices, you have consented for us to use your information, subject to local law, in the following ways:

  • to allow you to create an account;
  • to create a profile for you based on information that you have provided to us;
  • to contact you about Catalina Marketing Web Site updates, informational and service-related communications, including important security updates;
  • to enable you to provide feedback, to contact us and for us to respond to you;
  • to provide you with periodic notifications of job openings;
  • to provide information about you and your potential interest in job postings;
  • to allow Catalina Marketing to complete the recruitment and hiring process by accessing the searchable resume database;
  • to provide hiring managers with access to your profile to evaluate compatibility with open jobs; and
  • to generate internal reports about the use of our site.

When you create or post a resume to the Career Site, that resume is stored in the third party’s searchable database.  We attempt to limit access to our resume database to legitimate users such as human resource personnel, hiring managers and designated administration personnel.  You may remove your resume from our database at any time.  However, those Catalina Marketing personnel who have accessed the database may have retained a copy of your resume in their own files.  Accordingly, you should not put sensitive information in your resume.

Your resume must not contain sensitive data relating to your (i) racial or ethnic origin (ii) political beliefs (iii) philosophical or religious beliefs (iv) membership of a trade union or political party (v) physical or mental health or genetic makeup (vi) addictions, sexual life (vii) the commission of criminal offences or proceedings and associated penalties or fines, or (viii) any Social Security Number or national identification number.  If your resume does contain such data then you agree that we may retain this information and use it in accordance with this Web Policy.

If you provide us with details of a reference, it is your responsibility to ensure that the person is aware that you have forwarded his/her details and has consented in writing for you to do so.

Disclosure of Information to Others

We disclose to third parties in the United States and, if different, the country to which you have submitted an application, your personal information and combined personal, demographic, shopper-driven or indirect information, as set forth below.

  • Information you post in our searchable resume database may be accessed, used, and stored by other Catalina Marketing personnel around the world, including countries that might not have legislation that guarantees adequate protection with respect to your country of residence.  By providing your personal information for inclusion in our database, you acknowledge that you consent to your information being used as described herein.
  • Because we are a large company, we contract with other companies and individuals to help us provide services.  For example, we may host some of our Web sites on another company's computers, hire technical consultants to maintain our applications, or work with companies to analyze data, provide marketing assistance, and provide customer service.  In order to perform their jobs, these other companies may have limited access to some of the personal information we maintain about our users or employees.  Other companies may collect information on our behalf through their sites.  This occasionally incorporates the use of frames on the Web Site that will not show the URL you are visiting in the browser address window.  These companies and individuals may be located in a country whose data protection legislation is different from your country, and they will have access to your personal information as necessary to perform their functions.  We require such companies to comply with the terms of our privacy policies, to limit their access to any personal information to the minimum necessary to perform their obligations, and not to use the information they may access for purposes other than fulfilling their responsibilities to us.  We try to limit other companies’ use of your personally identifiable provided through our Web Site.  Nevertheless we will remain the data controller and be responsible for any information shared in this way.
  • If you apply for a position through our Career Site, you may be asked to provide information on your age, gender, race or other protected status where permitted by applicable law.  You should understand that, if provided, this information will only be used by Catalina Marketing in accordance with applicable law.  Providing this information is strictly voluntary and you will not be subject to any adverse action or treatment from Catalina Marketing if you choose not to provide this information.
  • We also may share aggregated anonymous information about visitors to the Web Site with partners and other third parties so that they can understand the kinds of visitors to the Web Site and how those visitors use the Web Site.
  • We disclose information if legally required to do so, if requested to do so by a governmental entity or if we believe in good faith – after considering your privacy interests and other factors – that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to legal requirements or comply with legal process; (b) protect our rights or property or our affiliated companies; (c) prevent a crime or protect national security; or (d) protect the personal safety of users or the public.  Because Catalina Marketing Corporation is a US company and information collected on our Web Site is stored in whole or in part in the United States, your information may become subject to U.S. law.
  • We may disclose and transfer such information to a third party who acquires all or a substantial portion of Catalina Marketing's business, whether such acquisition is by way of merger, consolidation or purchase of all or a substantial portion of our assets.  In addition, in the event Catalina Marketing becomes the subject of an insolvency proceeding, whether voluntary or involuntary, Monster or its liquidator, administrator, receiver or administrative receiver may sell, license or otherwise dispose of such information in a transaction approved by the court. You will be notified of the sale of all or a substantial portion of our business to a third party by email or through a prominent notice posted on the Sites.

  • Again, in each of these situations, your data may potentially be stored in any country in the world.  If you are a resident in any EU member state, for example, you must be aware that the EU authorities do not generally consider that the regulations of non-EU countries ensure an adequate or equivalent level of protection as compared to the EU data protection regulations.  Inasmuch, Catalina Marketing Corporation’s participation in the Safe Harbor program is further described in a subsequent section of this Web Policy.

Your Choices About Your Information

When you visit the Catalina Marketing Sites, you will not be asked for any information, except if you wish to contact us via the “Contact Us” screen or submit personal information through any of our Career Opportunities web pages. You have the choice to complete the web forms or to call us directly, without submitting any information.

You will be given the opportunity to choose whether your personal information is (a) to be disclosed to a third party working with Catalina Marketing or (b) to be used for a purpose that is different from the purpose originally intended or authorized. In addition, for sensitive information that includes personal information specifying medical or health conditions, employees will be given an affirmative or explicit opt-in choice.

You may have access to, review, correct, update, change or delete your Career Site profile information or resume at any time.  Simply log into your account, go to your profile or resume, and make the necessary changes. You may delete your resume from the Career Site’s online database at any time by accessing your account.  Before providing you with a copy of your personal information or correcting, updating or deleting such information, we reserve the right to verify and authenticate your identity and the personal information to which you have requested access.  Access to or correction, updating or deletion of your personal information may be denied or limited by Catalina Marketing if it would violate another person’s rights and/or as otherwise permitted by applicable law.

If you wish to delete or close your account profile information altogether, please use the “Contact Us” web forms or call us directly.  An archival copy of your resume, which is not accessible by you or third parties on the Internet, is retained only for as long as Catalina Marketing reasonably considers necessary for audit and record purposes.   We will retain logs, demographic, indirect, and statistical information about your Web Site usage in an anonymized form.

You can always contact us in order to (i) remove the personal information that you have provided to us from our systems, (ii) update the personal information that you have provided to us, and (iii) change your preferences with respect to contacts by e-mailing us at privacy@catalinamarketing.com or if available also logging into your account to update your information.
